Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodman was an American photographer (1958-1981) who's main body of work focused on the nude female. As well as female models, she used herself as subject.
linking interior space (derelict space, a theme I am currently working with) and architecture with fashion. Interesting in the way that interior has been used to 'clothe' the body...giving itself new meaning. I have been looking at her work a lot recently and love the juxtaposition of the soft focus with the linear qualities of the peeled wall.

The Futury Laboratory: Trend Forecasting 2010

The Future Laboratory gave a very insightful talk on what is to happen trend wise in the next decade highlighting how technology we have now is (as we know) ever more on the increase of what it can do etc.

many areas were covered from 'Rubanisation' to 'Generation D' - or 'Generation Digital'

it was focusing on what the consumer wants and what they don't yet know they want

Even thought it was not directly fashion orientated, it could be seen how the information would be adapted and made relevant into any category whether fashion, product, lifestyle etc

Mary McCartney at The Conway Hall

Last night, photographer Mary McCartney was joined in conversation with Robin Derrick -worked in i-D mag then along the way working with Nick Knight and Mario Testino to eventually become creative director of British Vogue. He also contributes as creative director to the Armani brand.
Many of McCartney's images were discussed, mainly talking about how, why and when they were created and any story behind them. Her mother was a huge influence on her becoming a photographer, having watched her while growing up.

'Off Pointe' - A Photographic study of the Royal Ballet After Hours was one of McCartney's personal projects - beautifully natural photographs following the ballet dancers for 3 months off stage and in their home environments.

Little Edie

The Ladies themselves..... (and the leotard)

Grey Gardens interiors

looking at the idea of unused/abondened space still....watched Grey Gardens (original version of course) do not know how many times ive watched it now but it continues to entertain.
Grey Gardens (1972) - the lives of Big Edie and Little Edie Beale, was made into a film by the Maysles brothers and captures the 'everyday' lives of the eccentric mother and daughter.
Little Edie is a style influence in herself - most notably for the turban and (i think) for the certain see through front leotard in American Apparel, who knows?

Charles Avery

I've been aware of Charles Avery's work for quite a few years now, having accidently walked in on him setting up one of his early exhibitions in Angel, Islington. Since then he has shown work in major exhibtions in both the Hayward Gallery and Parasol Unit (london)
His work is a variety of both drawing, painting and sculpture - creating mythical creatures and stories behind them - (the islanders)
His drawings, some of which are pretty damn big are incredible - above a few of my favourites
